First Ladies, Political Role & Public Image is a traveling exhibit that presents the fascinating and sometimes ambiguous role of the First Lady. A collaboration between the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, First Ladies features numerous historic images, artifacts and original gowns previously on display in the long running NMAH exhibit. An ambitious undertaking given the requirements for conservation, security and durability, the exhibit will travel to numerous venues across the country over the next several years. Explus, working with design partner the PRD Group, was responsible for exhibit and graphic design, detailing, fabrication, graphic production and crating.
